A new version of Cytomic's free to use, award-winning virtual drum instrument is now available for download. Version 1.2 brings with it a number of improvements, user interface tweaks and other new features. Version 1.2 offers a user interface that should be much more streamlined and less cluttered than before, making it easier to find the controls you are looking for without getting lost in menus or other features that are not relevant to the task at hand. The interface itself can be controlled via MIDI controllers such as the Akai MPD32, and offers the ability to adjust the transients of each part via a simple interface that can be unlinked from each drum for instant selection. The pad sampler remains unchanged, but the number of possible samples and their type has been increased. Another new feature is the ability to edit and create your own kits for performance elements in your tracks. This way you can add drums, effects and other controls all in one place without having to go back and forth between editing them separately in different projects or tracks. The new SmartTransTransport technology has also been incorporated into the Renoise-based interface, giving the user access to renowned IRCAM drum modules (Leo, Paul, duPre). The new version of Cytomic also features many bug fixes and improvements for stability and operation. The VST format is compatible with Windows Vista and OS X Snow Leopard. A demo file is available for visitors to download without charge. Remember that the full version of Cytomic (for OS X or Windows) costs $39.
